Designer bio: Marc Jacobs Post Image

Marc Jacobs was born on April 9, 1963 in New York City. This true New York City designer's life was altered when his father died at the age of seven. He moved in with his grandmother; which changed his life. Marc got into the Parsons School of Design and then later began at Perry Ellis. He then created his own label and is known as one of the most influential fashion designers in America.

Marc Jacob's father passed away from ulcerative colitis, a condition that Marc also suffered from. Marc's mother failed to show support during this sad time, which caused a rocky household. Marc's mother began dating and later remarried; with every remarriage, Marc and his siblings moved households from Bronx, Long Island to New Jersey.

He then realized living with his mother was unstable, he then felt at home living with his grandmother. His grandmother taught him the appreciation for the creative designs that Jacobs created.

At the age of 15, Jacobs was attending the High School of Art and Design and began working at the upscale clothing boutique Charivari. After gaining experience, the staff allowed him to design sweaters for the store.

In 1984, he graduated from Parsons and at the age of 221, he created his first collection for the label Sketchbook for Reuben Thomas. In 1987, he was the youngest designer at Perry Ellis.

1993, Perry Ellis closed there manufacturing plant, Jacobs sent out a "grunge" collection for the label, which critics agreed, but the company did not. Marc Jacobs then started his own company under his name. He was named creative director of the Louis Vuitton house of luxury goods in Paris.

While launching his career, his life turned upside down. He began heavy drug use and seeked help from Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour. He then checked into rehab in 1999.

After cleaning up, he began working on his collection. He launched Louis Vuitton's first ready-to-wear line while also expanding his own line. January 2010, Marc married his boyfriend Lorenzo Martone. His work continues to influence many upcoming designers today.
