Ask the Guys: Biggest Turn-Off on a First Date

Question: What's the biggest fashion turn-off for a guy on a first date?

The answer to this question is really going to vary from guy to guy. First dates can be rough. They're often awkward and uncomfortable. You tend to spend too much time in your own head and not enough time being yourself and enjoying it. So, my first suggestion is to look nice, but dress comfortably. I'm not saying show up in sweatpants and your old sorority sweatshirt, but dress so the last thing you'll have to worry about the entire time is how much your feet are killing you and that you can't wait for the date to be over so you can soak them in a bucket of ice.

To get a little more specific about your attire, don't overdo anything. We love us some skin, but don't show so much that other guys might wander over and ask, "How much?" Don't cake on the makeup for pretty much the same reason. Contrary to popular belief, most of us really prefer a more natural look. We're trying to get to know you and it can be pretty distracting when you look like a mobster's wife. If you're comfortable, it'll show through your demeanor and we'll appreciate that since it will make it easier to have a good time.

Keep in mind, we are probably just as nervous as you are. We want to make a good impression as well. Chances are we are going out with you for a reason. Blind dates aside, we have probably already spoken to or met you for a little bit, decided that we liked you, and would like to get to know you better. If you think about that while you're getting ready, it should alleviate some of the nerves and help you make the right fashion decisions.
